I'm not... falling forward, that is, but these guys are. That's their band name... at least for today. Tomorrow? Who knows!
Sorry this is so dark! It's almost like it's a... well... bar.
We went to see Andy and crew at the Reef on Friday night! Great show - as always!

What coud be better than...
... a Friday night at the Keswick? And is there anyone we'd enjoy seeing more than Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin?
The talked a little... played a little... and made us feel as though we were just hanging out with a couple of friends.
They told us that they had known each other nearly 30 years - good friends who love to spend time in each others living rooms singing and playing guitars.
Mary said that if we were in HER living room, we'd all be wearing pajamas - by 4:00 at the latest! Shawn said that if we were in HER living room, there would definitely be popcorn and chocolate. Now that's my kind of living room.
I would love to be just sit in the corner in either living room - or the front porch - and listen.

Bronze Radio Return with Greg, Gregory and Alex
For Christmas, I gave Gregory and Alex (and Greg) a night at World Cafe Live to see Bronze Radio Return with Michael and me. (One of our favorite bands!)
They agreed graciously and they were sold on the idea of a concert, but I'm not so sure they were sold on the band or the small venue.
We got there in time for soundcheck...
...and dinner (notice the look of excitement on everyone's face. I think this is called "humor the old girl")
But when the band started to play, it was a whole different story...
Within 10 minutes, Gregory screamed at me across the table (Did I mention that this band is LOUD?)...
"They're awesome!!!!!!"
According to Gregory's Facebook page, this was absolutely the best concert he had ever been to!
On Friday, they are at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia and the concert is totally sold out! Michael and I are able to go, but it was too late to get tickets for Gregory and Alex and Greg. We'll be ready next time!
It was a great evening! SO much fun to share something that I love so much with my family. And to have them love it? A bonus!
Standing outside after the concert, waiting for Michael to bring the car, Gregory laughed and said to me, "This is something I never thought I'd do - go to a rock concert with my Grammie!"
Live and learn, kiddo!
Life IS good!!

This band rocks!
(By the way... you can find Bronze Radio Return on Pandora Radio)

It didn't
take long for Greg and Alex to move to an adjacent table at the edge of
the stage, right in front of the drummer (Alex is taking drum lessons
and is doing GREAT)

If there were 50 people there, I would be surprised. Wilmington is just not "with it" yet - as far as Bronze Radio Return. Next time will be a different story!

Vince Gill
Okay... when I saw that Vince Gill was going to be at the Keswick I thought... (as I often do)... "What the heck! Why not!". It's Vince Gill and he's going be close. So.... sure. I'm in.
I was sure it would be okay... or even good, but I wasn't expecting it to be as great as it was! Color me surprised!
When we got there, the sign on the door said "No Intermission." Hmmmm... I thought (I know you like to know what I'm thinking)... must not be an opening act". Unless, of course, they were thinking of doing some kind of tag-team switch between acts, which I seriously doubted. (Nothing gets by me.)
Vince (Yes.. first names. We're close.) said at the beginning of the show that he had spent a lot of years as an opening act - got to play for 25 minutes. Sometimes he was the 2nd act and he was able to play for 45 minutes. He told us that playing is what he loves to do and that he decided that when he did it again, he would just play a lonnnnnnnng time!
And play he did! The show started at 8:00 and it was almost 11:00
before we were on the way to the car. He played lots of old ones... some
new ones... had great stories. It was a great night!
Vince said that one morning, shortly after his 55th birthday, he went to breakfast and noticed the menu for folks "55 and older" and it made him laugh that he was now in that group. (I hit that age quite a while ago, and it never made me laugh.)
There were 8 in the band - plus Vince. A great group of musicians! I teasingly told Michael that this was the "no spring chickens" tour because the musicians were old enough to have "played for a few years" (she said, tactfully). We were definitely in the hands of people who knew what they were doing - and who had a good time doing it.
A great night of music! Would I go again? You bet your boots, I would!
Thanks, Vince! See you next time!
Any musical surprises in your life lately?

Martin Sexton
The hand-painted backdrop was SO Martin Sexton - a circle of guitars symbolizing the unity of religions... philosophies... lifestyles. Is there a nicer man anywhere? I mean... really???? It's a privilege to see Martin Sexton - any time! Tonight was no exception.
The show was all electric tonight - until the encore, which was acoustic. Pretty good for a guy who started with a Sears Roebuck acoustic guitar.
There was no set list. He just played what we wanted to hear. "Martin fans" are "Martin fans". It doesn't much matter what he plays, we love it all! He even turned us into a choir from time to time tonight. Fun!
A beautiful man with a beautiful voice. I'm so glad we went!
And...
The opening act was Stephen Kellogg - lots of energy - great opener.
He told us that times are tough and that he had to use family as his road crew... and then out came his two beautiful daughters to dance for us while their dad played and sang. I'm a sucker for dancing kids sooooo it was "hit" with me. (Irish step dancing anyone?)
Stephen will be back in the area this summer with his band, SK6ers, but I'm not sure where or when. Should be a terrific show!
What's your favorite thing to do on a Friday?

Cowboy Junkies
We are hooked on the Junkies! Michael is more hooked than I am, though. They are... as Randy Jackson says... "a little sleepy for me, Dawg".
But... no matter what... you have to love Margo - her voice - her "Margo-essence" (new word).
It starts with the flowers and the table with the black cover. If Margo's coming... there will be flowers.
And then... Michael and Margo Timmons (not sure I could work with my brother for so many years) come on stage. The rest of the band follows and after a huge greeting from the audience... quiet settles over the house like a fog and the concert begins.
Michael says Margo never changes. My friend Joe and a friend of his met us at the Keswick. He's another Margo fan (Personally, I think they're both obsessed - not that I'm envious in the least. Nossir!). "She's ageless", Michael says. Joe just stares.
C'mon! Not be catty or anything, but the reason we don't have very many pictures is that the doggone stage is almost black - very little lighting. I mean really. In the dark, I'm ageless too!
Okay... so she's gorgeous! Doesn't matter if it's in the dark OR the light! She just is. And sing? Amazing!
With a wave and a bow... they said farewell until next time....
It was another great night at the Keswick and another great night with the Cowboy Junkies.
Oh! I forgot to mention that the opening act was Joe Purdy (who performed WITH the lights on.)

Indigo Girls at the Keswick
We went to see the Indigo Girls at the Keswick Theatre last night! What a great show!! It was a fantastic night!
I've been writing some concert reviews for a new Website that a friend is getting started at:
WhatMusicMeans2Me.com
The review isn't up yet, but as soon as it is, I'll be back with the URL for the review.
Google doesn't like the same content published in two different places, so I'll be publishing my reviews on the
WhatMusicMeans2Me.com site and publishing the link here along with a couple of pictures from the concert (hopefully).
So good! Soooooooooo good!
Been to any great concerts lately?

The Ever-Amazing Doc Watson
Michael (and Michael's friend/boss, John) and I went to see Doc Watson on Sunday. I've been a huge fan of Doc Watson since my teens (Yes, contrary to popular belief I was once a teen - and the wheels on the cars at that time were NOT carved out of stone).

I remember seeing Doc Watson for the first time at The Main Point in Bryn Mawr in 1965 with his son, Merle, who was a year younger than I was. Amazing! Doc turned 88 in March - and he can still play! (and sing!)
Doc Watson was born sighted, but lost his sight before he was a year old due to an eye infection. His talent as a musician (and as a kind, gentle man) has always been an inspiration to me.

ANYWAY... I wrote a concert review for my friend, Joe and his new music website. You can find the review at:
http://www.whatmusicmeans2me.com/concert-reviews/doc-watson-with-david-holt-t-michael-coleman-and-richard-watson-by-jane-mckinnin/
Doc and his wife lost their son, Merle in 1985 as a result of a tractor accident on their farm. I would think that every time Doc steps on a stage, he remembers Merle and all the times that they came out on stage together. Bittersweet memories, I'm sure.
Doc met his wife, Rosa Lee, when she was 14 years old. He said it was just a couple of months later that she told her father that someday she was gonna "marry that fella". And... she did. Doc still refers to her as "my little darling".
It was a wonderful evening - filled with nostalgic tears... sweet memories... and amazing music!

Light Up The Queen!
World Cafe Live at the Queen Theater in Wilmington, Delaware
Last night was the first concert in the Queen theater which has been closed since the lights went out over 50 years years ago (April, 1959).
The Queen was built in 1915 at a cost of $250,000. The vast two-tier theater originally seated 2,000 people.
The Queen is an entire city block long with six floors. Like World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, there are two stages: "Upstairs" has a capacity of 150 seated and 250 standing room only; "Downstairs" has a capacity of 400 seated and 800 standing room only.
The Queen also provides banquet facilities (yes, your child can have a birthday party at the Queen) and a studio for WXPN (well, of course), full service kitchens and who knows what else?!?
The renovation of the Queen theater has been estimated at over $25 million - only possible through the help of partners who supported and funded the vision . The premier partner is the "Light Up The Queen Foundation" which has been dedicated to the revival of the Queen Theater.
And those are the facts. But the Queen is much more than facts.
We were privileged to be at the Queen for Ingrid Michaelson concert, which was standing room only and packed! Although the balcony area was closed for a "grand opening" party given by Hal Real (Light up the Queen), we were fortunate enough to have had seats in the third row of the balcony (even though we weren't part of the party) that provided a breathtaking view of the theater.
The murals high on the wall to our right were painted almost 100 years ago. That these murals are still there is a tribute to the kind of care that has been taken with this renovation.
I was speechless (and a little teary, I admit) at the beauty of this theater. The workmanship on the marble and the plaster and every surface is awe inspiring. The railings - the work on the ceilings - the moldings - the front of the balcony - just everywhere.
The concert began an hour after the scheduled start, but we really didn't mind. There was so much to see!
This theater has its own personality that it's carried with it for almost 100 years and it's palpable. You can feel it all around you.
I think that in the future when going to events at the Queen, I'll make a concerted effort (no pun intended) to get there early - to drink in the majesty of the old theater - to let her 100 year history wrap itself around me - to feel the life and breath in the walls and the stage.
Music at the Queen! What could be better???
Long live the Queen!
