So... the guy from Enterprise comes around 3:40 this afternoon to pick me up to get my rental car. That was fine.
When we got to Enterprise I went in to do the paperwork and get the keys, etc. for the car. That was fine.
"We have a Chevy Aveo for you, Ms. McKinnon" the dear girl said with a smile.
"Thanks" I replied, just as sweetly. "I just need wheels for a week - doesn't have to be fancy."
Outside waiting is this silver Chevy Aveo - dent in the driver's door - scraped up bumper - rust spots on the passenger side. I took a deep breath and thought... "it doesn't matter. I just need a car and this is cheap."
I got in the car and started to drive away. I noticed that I couldn't adjust the side view mirror on the passenger side. It was manual, not electric. I was slightly dismayed, but again... the price was right.
When I reached for the button to lower the window, there was no button. Remember handles to roll down windows? I was there! I had handles to roll down the windows. Really????
*sigh* Cheap. Remember. Cheap.
When I got home, I tried to adjust the seat better. uh uh. It was not moving.
I sat there a minute, undecided and then drove down the driveway, down the street and back to Enterprise. This was cheap... not free.
I parked the car... went back inside and was greated by the dear girl.
"Is something wrong, Ms. McKinnon?" (She looked so sad)
I started to laugh.
"Do the cars without dents cost more?" I asked, slightly sarcastically. "How about the ones that have adjustable seats?"
"Are you unhappy with the car, Ms. McKinnon?" (sad face)
I was politely incredulous.
"Well, Ms. 'X' (she was nice. I'll leave her name out of it)... unless you offer a special "piece of shit" discount, I am a little unhappy, yes."
At that point, she laughed, too.
Long story short... Ms. X talked to the manager and they offered me a minivan for the same price. Pretty sweet!
It's a small Enterprise location and I made the reservation kind of at the last minute, so they were a little short of cars. I guess all they had left was the car NO ONE else wanted.
I know there is a HUGE difference between the cost of the minivan and the cost of the uh... well... you know. SO... as kind as they were when I went back, I told them that I lived about 6 blocks away and that if they were able to rent their minivan and wanted it back, I'd be glad to come back and make the exchange... for something not quite as "manual" as the first car.
Meanwhile... I'm cruisin'! :-)

As always, love your perspective and sense of humor! Only you could say something about a "Piece of **&^" discount and walk out with a mini-van!! Too funny!
