To God Be The Glory

Those were the last words that Oprah said on her final show.

I know her final show was a couple of days ago. I recorded it and started to watch it on Wednesday, but turned it off, not sure I wanted to watch an hour of Oprah talking.

Today I decided to watch and I'm glad I did. There were so many nuggets of wisdom that Oprah has gained through the years.

One of them was a quote that she heard years ago (I don't know who she quoted and can't find anything on the Internet - at least not yet). The quote was:

"You are responsible for the energy that you bring into this place."

One of the things that I've learned this past year (late in life, I know) is that what goes around truly does come around - and it comes around as soon as the word... the action... the thought is said or done.  What we send out, we get back.

I love the quote above and I'd like to carry it one step forward.  I'd like to put a note on the inside of every door that says...

"You are resonsible for the energy that you take out of this place and into the world."

So many good thoughts today - amazing examples of how God is bigger than our biggest dream.

Wait 'til I tell you...

... about this car!

So... the guy from Enterprise comes around 3:40 this afternoon to pick me up to get my rental car.  That was fine.

When we got to Enterprise I went in to do the paperwork and get the keys, etc. for the car.  That was fine.

"We have a Chevy Aveo for you, Ms. McKinnon" the dear girl said with a smile.

"Thanks" I replied, just as sweetly. "I just need wheels for a week - doesn't have to be fancy."

Outside waiting is this silver Chevy Aveo - dent in the driver's door - scraped up bumper - rust spots on the passenger side.  I took a deep breath and thought... "it doesn't matter. I just need a car and this is cheap."

I got in the car and started to drive away.  I noticed that I couldn't adjust the side view mirror on the passenger side. It was manual, not electric.  I was slightly dismayed, but again... the price was right.

When I reached for the button to lower the window, there was no button.   Remember handles to roll down windows?  I was there!  I had handles to roll down the windows.  Really????

*sigh*  Cheap.  Remember.  Cheap.

When I got home, I tried to adjust the seat better.  uh uh.  It was not moving.

I sat there a minute, undecided and then drove down the driveway, down the street and back to Enterprise.   This was cheap... not free.

I parked the car... went back inside and was greated by the dear girl.

"Is something wrong, Ms. McKinnon?" (She looked so sad)

I started to laugh.

"Do the cars without dents cost more?" I asked, slightly sarcastically.  "How about the ones that have adjustable seats?"

"Are you unhappy with the car, Ms. McKinnon?"  (sad face)

I was politely incredulous.

"Well, Ms. 'X' (she was nice. I'll leave her name out of it)... unless you offer a special "piece of shit" discount, I am a little unhappy, yes."

At that point, she laughed, too.

Long story short... Ms. X talked to the manager and they offered me a minivan for the same price.  Pretty sweet!

It's a small Enterprise location and I made the reservation kind of at the last minute, so they were a little short of cars.  I guess all they had left was the car NO ONE else wanted.

I know there is a HUGE difference between the cost of the minivan and the cost of the uh... well... you know.  SO... as kind as they were when I went back, I told them that I lived about 6 blocks away and that if they were able to rent their minivan and wanted it back, I'd be glad to come back and make the exchange... for something not quite as "manual" as the first car.

Meanwhile... I'm cruisin'!   :-)

Note:   If you have NO idea what I'm talking about... read below:  Cars Suck

Cars Suck!

Woulda... coulda.... shoulda...

I should have gotten rid of my dear li'l CRV a month (or more ago) but nooooooo I did NOT follow my best instincts and now my car is sad.  It put its engine light on this morning on my drive to work.

I find that my instincts are right more often than not, despite my "training" to the contrary.  I should learn to trust them more.

I have an appointment next Wednesday to get it fixed.  In the meantime I've rented a car for the week - super duper cheapie deal.

They told me at the garage that I could drive it, but it's running so poorly that I'm afraid I'll get stuck somewhere.  For about $100 it's not worth the worry to me PLUS... I don't like having my wings clipped!!!

Looks like I will sell it after it's fixed... probably... depending on how much money it takes and how "fixed" it is.

Like I said... cars suck!

Rain! Rain!

Every time someone asks me to name my favorite movie, I always forget this one.  And then the rain reminds me.

Take 4 minutes and 36 seconds... sit back and enjoy!

AARP Rocks!

Okay... maybe a little too enthusiastic, but I wanted to celebrate before I forgot (a 'senior moment" thing).

According to the marquee outside of my work complex, May is "Older Americans Month".  Wouldn't want to miss that now, would we??

I'm not sure what we're supposed to do about it other than say... "Yay! Old people!!"

So..... Yay! Old people!

Live strong!  Live long!

(I plan on giving it my best shot!)
